Original Recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 5.74 oz can of Coconut Creme *
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup (or honey) or to taste
- 1 Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions ~ Add all ingredients in the order above to a saucepan and heat til just simmering.
Alternatively: Place all ingredients in a VitaMix Blender and blend until hot and creamy. Obviously multiply the portions for more servings. This batch will serve two nicely.
If you don’t like Coconut Milk, I’m sure you could use regular whole milk or any milk for that matter, almond, soy, etc. Just use your imagination.
* (or 2 cups of hot but not boiling water and 3 tablespoons shredded coconut if you have a Vitamix or high powered blender)
If you have a Vitamix or other good blender, just dump hot water, shredded coconut, Turmeric, Cinnamon, honey/maple syrup and cayenne into the blender and blend for 2 minutes
You can order Turmeric from: Mountain Rose Herbs. Good value and great quality. Alternatively I buy some herbs at my health food story as you can see in the Simply Organic Brand in the picture above. You can, of course purchase Turmeric whole, unprocessed. It is sold in organic health food stores as well.
I read that one should not take turmeric alone as it can be too hard on the liver. One should use a 1 to 6 ratio of other spices such as cumin, coriander, fennel and/or ingredients. 1 part turmeric to 6 parts other spices so that the tumeric “cools down” in the body. Then mix it with some Ghee, (the lipids help assimilate the spice in the body) lentils/rice, etc.
ANOTHER RECIPE: FROM: http://epicureandigest.com
EXCERPT: Fat/oil: This is my modus operandi and part of my morning routine. Two teaspoons of coconut oil (turns solid in winter so I warm it a little) to one teaspoon of turmeric which will equal the recommended dose of 1g daily. Sometimes I add an eighth of a teaspoon of cayenne and a dash of cumin…simply because I like the flavors. * Take with some food as if you’re not used to turmeric you may suffer an upset stomach
